VTG -- Framed, Hand-Stitched Quilt by Raleigh, NC Artist, D.D. Blackerby
Description: Blackerby was most active and most widely recognized in the Piedmont region of North Carolina during the late 90s, when she had several pieces on display at museums around Raleigh, including the NC Museum of the Arts. Two of her pieces, "Spiraling Toward the Edge" and "Inside Out" are currently held in the municipal collection of Raleigh.
This quilt is engrossing. It had a dark navy border with central area comprised of triangles cut from 6 different floral patters and 1 dark red piece of fabric. These areas are separated by a shiny gold border. Throughout the entire piece, Blackerby stitched a pattern reminiscent of wings or flower petals extending and growing in thin gold frame, giving the work both a sense of movement and greater coherence.
Condition: Excellent -- both frame an quilt are in perfect condition
Dimensions:
Quilt: 40 x 40"
