Description: O'Reilly was a psychiatrist who retired to Maine with his family. This is where he truly bloomed as an artist, inspired as he was by the coast of his new home. This watercolor and the subsequent series of prints produced from it were prompted by the decision of his neighbor to paint the US flag onto the clapboards of her porch. Apparently this caused some controversy in the neighborhood. Following 9/11, however, it came to represent, for O'Reilly, the sense of unity that emerged in the wake of those tragic events.
