Signed and Framed Artwork -- Original Collage/Painting by Shirley Kallus in Wormwood Frame -- "Potted Bouquet"
Description: Lively mixed-media depiction of beautifully potted, vibrantly colored flowers. The pinks, yellows and cool lavenders pop out joyfully from the warm orange background.
Kallus (1924-81) established herself in Detroit during the 1950s and 60s. She worked as a teacher at a number of public schools in both Detroit and Dearborn, as well as being an early faculty member at the Adat Shalom Synagogue School. She was the winner of local community art competitions. One of her tapestries, titled "Orange Garden" (1963), was acquired by the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Condition: Pre-owned -- excellent; the work has no damage; the bottom edge of the matting has some slight discoloration, probably just due to aging; the frame is also in very good condition; the few scratches add to its rustic charm
Dimensions (frame): 20-1/8 x 23-1/8"
